First Class Cricket is the oldest form of cricket and it was in practice even before Test matches were played. First class cricket is usually played by teams within a country and is a domestic cricket competition.
The format of first class cricket is similar to that of Test cricket. There are two teams of eleven players each and both teams play two innings respectively. The standards have to be equal to that of test cricket with a proper playing field, and the match has to have a minimum of three days duration (except for the one day games).
Many international stars are known to play first class cricket as first class cricket always acts like a stepping stone to international cricket. Domestic cricket in some countries are very prestigious. For instance the English county championships are so renowned the world over that it has always attracted quality players from across the globe.
First class cricket is also played by international teams. These matches are held on tours and function as warm up games when the touring nation plays the first class teams of the host nation before the international series starts.
