| Surrey County Cricket Club has one of the best records in county championships. It won the first County cricket championship in 1890. Then from 1887 Surrey County Cricket Club won the County Cricket championship eight times in a row. The winning habit surfaced again in 1952 when the club won the championship seven successive times. Its inaugural match was against Kent at the Oval. The club had an ominous start with debts casting clouds of uncertainity over the future of the club. Soon the debts were cleared and victories, one after the other rolled towards the club.
