History
Essex County Cricket Club was established in 1876 and played their first first class match in 1895. The county have won the County Championships six times. The one day squad of the Essex County Cricket Club is called the Essex Eagles. The County Cricket Ground, Chelmsford is the home ground of the Essex County Cricket Club.
Performance
Essex have always been a strong contender in the English domestic circuit. They won the County Championships in 1979, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1991 and 1992. They also won the Benson & Hedges Cup in 1979, 1998, the NatWest Trophy in 1985 and 1997 and Sunday League in the 1981, 1984, 1985. Essex County Cricket Club began the 2006 season as the defending National League champions. They were a semifinalist at the recently concluded Twenty20 Series.
