Blessing Mahwire is a quick bowler and a handy lower-order batsman. He made his international debut against Pakistan at Harare in November 2002. He found the step up from club cricket with Mashonaland, and with the under-19 team a tough one though, and struggled to make an impact. A year later he was recalled or the 2003-04 tour of Australia and made the second Test at Sydney, but failed to take a wicket. However he stayed on for the home West Indies series in November 2003. He returned to the side against India and New Zealand in 2005 and made an impression with both bat and ball. He also surfaced as an unofficial spokesman for the players in their bitter dispute with the board.
