Some of the players on whom rests the fortunes of Sri Lankan team in the 2007 World Cup are-
Sanath Jayasuria
He might be on the wrong side of thirty, but Sanath Jayasuria does not fail to amaze every one with his energy. He came after his retirement in 2006 to play wonderfully well in England with two centuries- 122 and 152, to guide Sri Lanka to a 5-0 against England in May 2006.
In hindsight, it was the near genius of Sanath Jayasuria that fetched Sri Lanka its first World Cup triumph in 1996. And this being his last world cup, Jayasuria should be hoping to make it a memorable one.
Muttiah Muralitharan
Muttiah Murliatharan is dangerous on any pitch and derives prodigious spin from the most lifeless of pitches. In the test series against England in May 2006, Murali took 24 wickets from 3 test matches, with 2 ten-wicket hauls in a match.
That pitches in West Indies predominantly assist faster bowlers should not be a concern to Murali since the ever-smiling bowler seems to be pampered by pitches all over the world.
Mahela Jayawardene
Mahela Jayawardene has matured into one of the best batsmen for Sri Lanka in recent years. He lends solidity to Sri Lankan with his wonderful technique and temperament. Jayawardene had a wonderful time in the Sri Lanka's triumph in the NatWest Trophy. He made two centuries and a half century.
