Pakistan Team World Cup History
Success in the World Cup alien is not really alien to the talented Pakistani side since it won the 1992 World Cup. Here is a brief glance at Pakistan's performances in the past.

1975 World Cup

Pakistan was among the eight teams that participated in the first cricket world cup, which was held in England. Pakistan made a disappointing first round exit. Australia and West Indies reached the final, the latter won by 22 runs.

1979 World Cup

Pakistan had a much better time in the 1979 World Cup. It managed to reach the semi-finals before eliminated. This time too the Cup was taken by West Indies, when it beat England in the final.

1983 World Cup

This time too Pakistan ran its engine into the semi-final, only to run out of gas at the last moment. The semi-final was against West Indies, and the match result hardly failed to surprise anyone. In the final, India defeated West Indies to lift the World Cup.

1987 World Cup

For the third time in the row, Pakistan came close reaching the World Cup final, but was cut short by yet another cruel stroke of misfortune. Australia, which ultimately went on to win the World Cup defeated Pakistan in the semi-final by 18 runs.

1992 World Cup

Finally, after reaching three consecutive semi finals, Pakistan got to clinch the coveted trophy in 1992 World Cup. Imran Khan was captain of the team then. The manner in which Pakistan bounced back into the contention after nearly being terminated gives a measure of its determination. Inzamam-ul-Haq had a memorable time as a young player guiding Pakistan to victory.

1996 World Cup

The sub-continent played host to the world cup again, and many expected Pakistan to repeat the magic of 1992. To all disappointment of all such hopefuls Pakistan delivered an insipid performance and lost in the quarterfinals. That year Sri Lanka won the World Cup.

1999 World Cup

Pakistan played some wonderful cricket to reach the final of 1999 World Cup hosted England. The final, which was touted as one that promised to be a thriller, proved disappointing as the match fell tamely to the Australians.

2003 World Cup

Pakistan had a most dismal run in the 2003 World Cup as it finished 5th in Pool B, only above the non-test playing nations- Netherlands and Namibia. The world cup was won yet again by the Australia. gives information on Pakistan Team World Cup History and other Team Profiles.
