Kenyan Cricket Team Profile
Kenya previously played cricket along with Tasmania and Uganda in a team collectively called East Africa. East Africa even participated in the 1975 World Cup. However, Kenya did play a few matches individually, but it was only in 1981 that the Kenya broke free and acquired associate membership of the ICC.

Kenya were runners up in the 1994 ICC Trophy and so qualified for the 1996 World Cup. They did not have a very good run in the World Cup but caused one of the major upsets of the tournament by defeating the West Indies. After that World Cup, Kenya were granted ODI status and they hosted an ODI series.

In 1998, they shocked India by winning a brilliant one day game against the strong opponents. However they could not carry the good form into the 1999 World Cup and put up a disastrous show in the tournament by losing all the matches they played.

The 2003 World Cup however turned things around for Kenya. They proved to be the surprise package and stunned the cricketing world by defeating three test playing nations en route to the semi final. This was, and remains Kenya's biggest cricketing achievement till date.

Unfortunately though, the celebrations were cut short when in 2003 Kenyan cricket was hit by a major match fixing scandal that left captain and senior player Maurice Odumbe being banned from the game. That was not all and more controversy followed when many senior players went on strike following payment issues.

The ICC decided to strip Kenya of their ODI status in 2005, and they once again became an Associate Member. This will however come to effect in 2009 and till then Kenya will retain its ODI status, thus ensuring them an entry to 2007 World Cup. In 2009 Kenya will have to compete in the ICC Trophy and finish among the top six to regain its ODI status. brings to you the Kenyan Cricket Team Profile and other team profiles.
