County Cricket Ground (Edgbaston) is the home ground of the Warwickshire County Cricket Club. Edgbaston Stadium, as the ground is commonly known as, earned its test status in 1902.
One of the most distinguishing landmarks of County Cricket Ground (Edgbaston) is the Thwaite Memorial Scoreboard that lies towards the City End of the ground. The ground has seen several new additions since its first test match- an Indoor Cricket Centre, an Electronic scoreboard and a new stand named after the legendary spinner Eric Hollies.
County Cricket Ground (Edgbaston) has seen its own share of the memorable cricketing moments. The 1999 World Cup semi final between Australia and South Africa which ended in a nail-biting tie was played in this ground so was the 2005 Ashes series in which England stole a thrilling 2-run victory over Australia. Lara's epic innings of 501 not out against Durham was also played in this ground.
In 2005, there came a proposal which talked about Warwickshire County Cricket Club moving out of Edgbaston and sharing City of Birmingham Stadium with Birminham City FC. The proposal immediately met with strong protests which culminated in its being shelved.
